1a)-ARTIST STATEMENT
I like the art world: theoretical and practical aspects. I usually go to see exhibitions in order to know what the other artists do. Also I do ceramics, sculpture and photography.
I started doing ceramics in 1976. At the first time my works were groups of geometric pieces in which the visual and aesthetic aspect was the most important. I tried to combine shapes and rithms. I developed ceramic structures to put in the wall or in the floor.
After I started to mix materials and techniques. For exemple I introduced black felt, and I decided to do installations in order to present themes. Then I changed my way to work, because I documented these subjects with photographs and some of these images started to appear in my ceramic installations. Social and personal aspects where interacting: archaeology, philosophy connected with my personal life, etc.
Now I continue documenting my works to explain something. Also I try to do dessigns and models. I develop different aspects of the same subject. This new orientation combines aspects of the reality and the nature.
b)-My lecture starts presenting blue cobalt in Spain and after I explain some aspects of my work.
In Jingdezhen I’m developing the project Forest of bamboo, based in this plant really usual in China. I will do some sculptures based on bamboo and also I would like to decorate in blue cobalt the porcelain. Then I’ll try to compare the Spanish and Chinese way to apply blue cobalt.
2)- You will find a photography where I’m working and an old photography mine. If you need a better photography I will have to do.
3)-You will find 12 photographs of my work and three in higher resolution. I can’t connect my computer to wifi and I can’t use Photoshop (to cut, or to change the photographs size).
4)-you will find 1 vertical photography of my work (Beginnig in parallel), but this is in a low resolution.
5)- Title: Checking the shape and decoration.
(I have a lot of material in Barcelona. I didn’t know exactly what I needed in Jingdezhen before comming).
My project in Jingdezhen: The bamboo forest
I’m taking photographs of objects made by bamboo. This is a way to document how is used this plant in China.
The Jingdezhen project is based in three groups of bamboo:
1) One in which there are five bamboo whose size is 1,50 m. aproximately.
2) One in which there will be three or five small bamboo whose size is 50 or 60 cm. aprox.
3) One in which It will be midle size bamboo.
The decoration will be in blue cobalt, trying to adapt this Oriental plant to the Western dessing style.
PROJECT EXPLANATION:
Some years ago I did one Bamboo Project in Barcelona: Depictions of bamboo (2004). This was based on the aspect of this plant, that one could find in Barcelona shops and places. Some years ago a lot of people had bamboo plants in home. I observed the plant in Barcelona places and I did engravings, drawings, tiles and photographs. Now I will do some sculptures with blue cobalt decoration. My work pretends to know the importance and the utility of this plant for Chinese people. To contrast the Western and Oriental view of this.
In Jingdezhen I’m in contact not only with bamboo objects, but also with pictures and ceramic decorations inspired in bamboo. This allows me to contrast two different ways (the Chinese and the Western) to understand a daily object. Although Western people only use bamboo to decorate spaces.
