Hey! Thanks for coming to my exhibition :)
What you’re seeing is a body of work using and critiquing digital technology. I find that our online interactions are quickly integrating into daily life: making plans with friends, paying for groceries, getting the news. Without a use smartphone emoji it is very difficult to live a 21st Century lifestyle. I’ve used digital machinery, mainly a CNC machine, to create models and paint onto ceramics. The use blue heart emoji color in many of the pieces are made from the minerals within lithium-ion batteries; the ones powering our phones. I try not to make harsh judgments on our habits when using tech, but present these observations in a visual way. From taking selfies to shopping on TaoBao, it’s apparent that the digital revolution is quickly changing global culture.
Adam
For a little context, my education is in industrial design and I studied cutting-edge manufacturing techniques for mass-production. I decided to create alternative ways to produce ceramics as I found many ethical and economic problems with current manufacturing practices. Instead of starting a studio that only focused on handmade objects, though, I wanted to work with industry to potentially change the perception of global production.

结语
Adam Chau
