This workshop will focus on generating pottery forms that can be developed from wheel-throwing, slab-construction, and a combination of both techniques. The wheel will be used to make a wider variety of pottery shapes and will include stacking parts to achieve greater scale and assembling forms that are positioned off-axis. We will also work with slabs independently to build pottery forms using custom-made paper patterns. Finally, we will explore ways to incorporate slab construction into wheel-thrown forms. The goal of this workshop is to acquire a wider range of design skills and construction techniques to use in expanding one’s vocabulary with form. We will reference historical pottery forms to develop contemporary work.
