THE ART OF WOOD FIRING CLAY, FLAME AND ASH
Introduction of Chris Gustin’s Masterclass
The wood kiln is an amazing tool for both the potter and sculptor. This type of atmospheric firing process offers a unique opportunity to explore how surface, clay color and glaze can affect one’s work. We will make work and fire a local wood kiln in the area. With demonstrations and discussions on glaze techniques and the numerous ways for stacking the kiln that are unique to wood firing, we’ll explore the entire range of the firing process that affects the forms you make. We will also discuss the various types of wood kilns, and the firing dynamics that are specific to the type of kiln we are using.
