“ Elusive! Vague! Pictures in the middle! Vague! Elusive! At the core are things!” (Dao De Jing, ch 25)
How do we create art? My own creative processes lead repeatedly to existential questions such as material and energy, chaos and order. A prequel to verbal answers lies partly within the Western philosophy of science but more clearly in Eastern thought on creation as a fundament of Chinese philosophy/religion such as we encounter it in in Chinese art. Ancient mythical stories hold interesting parallels to the process of art creation. In my exploration of comparative myths I remark how Chinese thinkers seek answers to those circling questions which are of particular interest to the visual artist, beyond Western ratio.
'form is emptiness and emptiness is form'
Intrigued by the statement 'form is emptiness and emptiness is form' I try to find a balance in my work.
